The events of the last few months have demonstrated that the Sewerage and Water Board is broken and it needs to be fixed. Safe drinking water and fully functional drainage pumps are the most basic of city services. When our health and safety are at stake, It is crazy to continue to put our trust and our money into an obsolete system.

We must transition, as soon as possible, to a reliable external power source. In addition to dependable power for drainage and water pumps, that should provide long-term savings on equipment and personnel. I will also support a complete reorganization of the Sewerage and Water under the Department of Public Works, where there would be a direct line of responsibility and transparency.

Our decisions should be based on what is best for the future, not trying to justify and pay for the mistakes of the past. Our health and safety are too important to play games with.
